Contract for catalyst technology awarded to Clariant and Lummus

Huizhou Boeko Materials Co. Ltd. has chosen Clariant and Lummus Technology to provide their CATOFIN catalyst and process technology for the dehydrogenation of isobutane at a new plant in Huizhou City, China. The CATOFIN technology, licensed by Lummus Technology, will be used for the first time at one of Huizhou Boeko’s sites. The project includes the technology license and basic engineering. Upon completion, the plant will produce 550,000 million tpy of net isobutylene, serving as feedstock for the production of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE).

Jens Cuntze, Business President Catalysts and APAC at Clariant, expressed excitement about delivering their CATOFIN catalyst to this first Huizhou Boeko plant and anticipates a successful partnership. The CATOFIN process is highly efficient, utilizing fixed-bed reactors operating at optimal pressure and temperature for maximum catalytic dehydrogenation of isobutane. This results in high yields of isobutylene at low investment and operating costs.

The use of CATOFIN offers reliability, productivity, and increased profitability for the plant.
