Ferrari and SK On Collaborate to Advance Electric Vehicle Battery Technology: Partnership Set to Revolutionize Luxury Sports Car Industry

Ferrari and SK On Collaborate to Revolutionize Battery Technology

Ferrari S.p.A., the renowned Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, has teamed up with SK On Co., a fifth-largest electric vehicle battery producer in the world, to collaborate on cell technology. This partnership aims to enhance innovation in battery cell technology as Ferrari prepares to launch its first fully electric vehicle next year. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to demonstrate their commitment to sharing expertise and increasing cooperation in leading global battery cell technology innovation.

SK On is currently the exclusive battery supplier for Ferrari’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), providing cells for models such as the SF90 Stradale, SF90 Spider, 296 GTB, and 296 GTS. Limited-edition models like the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider from last year were also equipped with batteries supplied by SK On. This partnership solidifies SK On’s position as Ferrari’s main battery supplier for electric vehicles as Ferrari transitions about 60% of its lineup to be split between fully electric and hybrid cars by 2026. To support this transition, a new plant in Maranello, Italy will open in June to produce electric motors, battery packs, and power inverters.
