Diamondbacks Add Proven Left-Hander to Starting Rotation with One-Year Contract with Jordan Montgomery

Diamondbacks sign one-year contract with left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery

The Arizona Diamondbacks have added depth to their starting rotation by agreeing to a one-year contract with left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery. The deal is worth up to $25 million and includes a vesting option for 2025.

In his first 21 starts with the St. Louis Cardinals, Montgomery posted a 6-9 record with a 3.42 ERA. After being traded to the Texas Rangers in July, he went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA over his final 11 starts. Montgomery was instrumental in helping the Rangers secure their first World Series title, going 3-1 in the postseason.

With a career 3.68 ERA and a 38-34 record over 141 appearances, Montgomery brings valuable experience to the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff. He made his MLB debut in 2017 with the New York Yankees before being traded to the Cardinals in 2022.

Montgomery will join a strong rotation that features pitchers like Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Tommy Henry, Brandon Pfaadt, and Ryne Nelson. The Diamondbacks open their season against the Colorado Rockies in Phoenix on Thursday.
