Former Senator Joseph Lieberman, a dedicated friend of Israel, passes away in New York

Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, a former US vice presidential candidate and the first Orthodox Jew to hold the position, passed away on March 27 in New York at the age of 82. The Washington Post reported the news, citing a statement from his family. According to relatives, the cause of death was complications following a fall.

Lieberman, who had visited Israel most recently shortly after the attacks on October 7, was known for his unwavering support of Israel and its people. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paid tribute to Lieberman on his X-blog, calling him an exemplary public servant and American patriot who stood up fearlessly for what he believed in. Netanyahu remembered their first meeting decades ago and recalled Lieberman’s honesty, integrity, civic courage, moral sense, and willingness to stand up for truth. He also described Lieberman as unusually gentle and a loyal friend and expressed his sadness at his passing.
